Indian weddings don’t leave much room for funky hair do’s and even if you choose a wicked up-do, it may not look good on YOUR face, or even be seen because of your dupatta! However, this varies with ceremonies and traditions across India and the world and now with several pre-wedding ceremonies, you are bound to want different hairstyles. We understand that people from north India have very separate traditions to those in the south and we do not forget the lots of other nationalities in between. Here we cover some general aspects to do with your shape face and the best hairstyles that would look great on you. So take a moment to look in the mirror by tying your hair back. Notice what face structure you have and what features stand out to you. Of course, we are not talking about pin-pointing your flaws as everyone has them and there is nothing make up and illusions cannot do, to make your wedding day a ‘perfect one!’
Round face: you generally have a round face, with fuller cheeks and chin. Benefits are that you tend to look youthful and age very gracefully. You don’t want short curly hair that makes your round face appear rounder, and hence for reception ceremonies, avoid the ‘short- hair with curls’ look. Long, sleek-straight hair looks good and you can wear hair in different high up do’s easily.
Oval face: a symmetrical face and generally seen to be the ‘ideal’ face shape. Most models have this face shape and can hence carry off any hairstyle, including sleeked back, fringes, short, long, teased, curled or crazy hair do’s. It is best to keep hair off the face (and show off your features!) which can add ‘weight’ to your face.
Rectangular face: long, slim face with a narrow chin or high forehead. You also have a square jaw line which is the same width as your cheekbones. Avoid very long hair as this draws your face to look even longer. Delicate loose wavy hair, with shorter styles will be the ideal combination. You should keep medium length hair, with soft waves and side fringes.
Square face: you have a ‘square’ face with a strong square jawline and hairline. You need to add softness and roundness to your face by using curls, layers around the face and avoid straight hair. Avoid ‘straight’ cut fringes along your brow line and hair styles that make you look more ‘square.’ Curls and the choppy hairstyles are your key, so invest in a good curling device!
Heart face: you have a pointy chin so bring attention to the upper face. Side fringes and long hair with curls look great. Avoid wearing your hair sleeked back as this elongates your forehead which is likely to look larger than your chin which will then draw attention to your defined chin. Volume-ized buns for up do’s will work as will chin length bobs with fullness around the sides/ear area.
Diamond face: you have a narrow jawline and forehead, with wide cheekbones. Try chin length bob cuts, jagged side fringes with ‘wispy’ layered cuts. Avoid middle parted hair as this only elongates your face. Our suggestion is to always keep a fringe and find a great salon who can maintain this, even with up do’s – ensure you keep your fringe.
